Should You Be Home During a Roof Repair

Having work done on your home at any time can be stressful. Due to the nature of what is being done it will be an inconvenience and can cause additional stress to your family. However working with the right contractor can prepare you for what is ahead and give you the peace of mind to endure the temporary headache.

Phoenix Roofing has years of experience working on repair and replacing roofs. We understand what a huge undertaking it is and how important it is to get right. Before any project begins we take the time to prepare you for what is to come and what the process will be like.

Here are a few reasons why you may not want to be at home as normal during a roof repair or replacement:

– Noise – Roof work is noisy and loud, from hammering to nail guns, prepare for a lot of noise. This is especially important to keep in mind if you have pets.

– Safety – Roofers understand the job that has to be done and how to do it. What they can’t account for is where you may be coming in or out of your home. The old roof may be thrown down and it’s important to not be in the way when that happens.

– Vehicle Access – There will be a lot of trucks coming in and out and you don’t want your vehicle to get trapped when you need it.

Once you consider these factors you can make arrangements for your family or pets on the day of your roof work. It’s understandable if you want to be home to observe but you must put your safety and your family’s safety first. Talk with the experts at Phoenix Roofing to understand what the process will be like and how you can be a part of it.

Christmas Light Hanging and Removal Tips

December 21, 2022 by MikeDominick

Christmas Light Hanging and Removal Tips

Roofs get more attention this time of year than perhaps any other time due to the beauty of Christmas lights adorning their outline and the special guest who is expected to arrive on December 24th.

Outdoor Light Tips:

– Before installing any lights, test the strands to make sure they work

– Dispose of any damaged or frayed strands

– Find your best outdoor power source – typically located near the porch area

– Invest in a weather-proof extension cord

– Don’t work alone! Have a helper with you to hand the lights, align them correctly and hold the ladder when needed

– Install fasteners to help you lay the lights in a more uniform and easier to set up way, heavy duty plastic or rubber are the best material fastener to use

– Don’t connect more than three strands together at a time, otherwise you could incur more of a fire risk from an overloaded system

– Get on the ground to inspect your work and make adjustment as necessary

Remember safety is paramount! Don’t try to install lights in poor weather or without someone to help!

When it comes time to remove your decorations, use the same care and common sense. It’s a good idea to shut off the outside electricity. Dispose of anything that may have become damaged during the season. Store properly and label for next year!

Merry Christmas from all of us at Phoenix Roofing!

What to look for in a roofing contractor

It cannot be understated how important your roof is to protecting your greatest asset – your home.

When it comes to roof repairs, replacement or inspections – it’s important to make sure you choose a contractor with experience and professionalism.

Especially after wind events or storms, roofing contractors seem to come out of the woodwork making offers that seem too good to be true. Many times they are. Here are a few things to look for when choosing a roofing contractor for your home.

Roofing Contractor Check-List

– Experience and training – How long has the contractor been working, have they received any specific product training?

– Licensed – Ask for a Tax ID and business information to validate they are up-to-date on all local codes and requirements for operating a business

– Insured – Look for compensation insurance in case someone gets hurt on the job and liability insurance in case your home gets damaged in the process

– Bonded – Have they met the requirements to meet their financial and legal obligations in your state?

– References – Ask for references and be sure to contact several before proceeding

– Estimates – Be sure a written estimate is provided and there are no hidden fees

– Warranty – What type of warranty is provided on the work done? Will they provide the details in writing?

– Contract – Make sure a written contract is provided with payment information, schedule, materials to be used, etc.

Metal Roofing

December 8, 2022 by MikeDominick

Benefits of Metal Roofing

Metal roofing has had a resurgence lately with many people discovering the benefits of using it for their homes. From new construction to roof replacements, metal roofing is a viable alternative to typical shingles and may be the right choice for you.

Metal roofs are typically made from steel, aluminum, copper, zinc or tin. They can be styled in a way to resemble the look of tile, slate, shakes or shingles.

Benefits of Metal Roofing

– Metal roofs can last 40-70 years depending on which material you choose. This compares to asphalt roofs that typically last about 12-20 years.

– Metal roofs are very durable and depending on what material they are made of can be high wind resistant, protected from corrosion or cracking and impact resistant.

– Because of their material, metal roofs are protected from fire or lightning strikes.

– Roofs made out of metal reflect UV rays from the sun that contribute to heating up your home. Metal roofs can decrease your overall cooling costs.

– Metal roofs can be made of recycled material and recycled when they are no longer needed.

Metal roofs might not be for everyone. You need to consider a higher upfront cost even though that may pay for itself over time. Correct installation is imperative and working with a knowledgeable roofing company can save you a lot of headaches in the future.

The experts at Phoenix Roofing Company can explain the pros and cons of any roofing type. They are experienced to install metal or shingled roof and can provide a free estimate so you can make and educated decision for your home. Contact the team at Phoenix Roofing today.

Winter Proof Your Roof

December 1, 2022 by MikeDominick

Winter Proof Your Roof

The move to colder temperatures, snow or ice can take a toll on the life of your roof.

Did you know there are ways you can protect your roof from winter’s chill? There are! Here are a few ways you can protect the investment in your roof and help it to withstand the change in seasons.

The most important first step is to schedule a roof inspection to be sure it is ready to go into the season capable of withstanding wind and moisture. The experts at Phoenix Roofing can provide a thorough inspection and make recommendations as needed. It would be best that any repairs that may need to be performed would take place before the worst of winter sets in.

It’s also important to make sure your roof is free of debris such as leaves or limbs. Debris could trap moisture and fill your gutters leading to potential water damage. Debris removal is another service that Phoenix Roofing can provide in a safe and effective way.

Do a walk around your property and look for any overhanging tree branches that extend over your roof line. Winter storms could potentially knock these branches down and the force could damage your roof. Remember your roof is the first line of defense for your home.

Lastly, don’t wait for Santa to check out your chimney. Chimneys can be a site of potential roofing damage through cracks or deterioration. A full roofing inspection will be sure to include the area around the chimney and repair any damage that may lead to moisture leaking into your home.

With a well inspected and cared for roof, you can enjoy the winter weather indoors knowing that your home is protected. Contact the roofing experts at Phoenix Roofing today to set up your inspection today!
